The Great Gatsby

One of my favorite books is coming again to theaters.
Can. Not. Wait.

Happy Friday, y'all! Cheers to those with three day weekends!

happy accidents

It's been three times this past week that I've received compliments on my ombre hair,
and I have to admit, I've never been to the salon to have ombre hair...
...nor did I ever think I had ombre hair.

Whoops. Well, it's really not that drastic as this sun and shade combo makes it out to be, but you get the point.

My secret??...
awesome photo choices, right?

Many years ago, blonde Whitney became brunette Whitney again.
Add time, faded hair color, and those blonde roots soaking up all that dark color,
and viola! you have ombre hair.

I refer it as a happy accident, and my friends think I'm trendy. ;)

Pewter

My love for pewter eye shadow began when I was introduced to Sidecar in my Urban Decay Naked Palette. It was just the perfect shade to wear alone or under other shadows.

It was naturally the first shadow to go since I wore it almost daily. Imagine my surprise when I went to go purchase an individual Sidecar only to be let down that it was one of the Naked palette's exclusive shades. Boo.

Luckily, I found a quick match in Urban Decay's YDK shadow, and then eventually a dupe in Ulta's Trendsetter shadow. And it doesn't hurt that it's only $6 versus the Urban Decay's shadow at $19, and your are getting more product. Win, win.

Ulta's Trendsetter and MAC fluidline gel eyeliner

I also switched up my mascara to Loreal Voluminous Power Volume,
and for my teeny tiny lashes it does exactly what it says.

Weekend OOTD Notes

Borrowing this dress from my college days, I had a very blue/green kick this weekend.
Can you believe I found it at Target?! I got many a compliment on my "Lilly" dress! ha

On Saturday I wore my high and low Anthropologie dress while attending one of my own bridesmaid's bridal shower. It's crazy to think we went from college roommates, to getting engaged only a week apart from each other, then becoming each others' bridesmaids this year. Craziness, people!

Notice the common thread in both outfits?
It doesn't take much to see how obsessed I am with my bubble necklace. :)

Happy Monday, friends!

Review: May Birchbox

I could tell from the black packaging that this May's Birchbox was a going to be a little different.

Then when I figured out this month was Gossip Girl inspired, I became giddy...
..those gossip girls don't use hand creams!!
(Y'all all know I can get crabby over the excessive amount of hand creams I've been given in the past.)

But alas, here's what I got:

Arquiste | Flor y Canto perfume
Caudalie | Hand and Nail Cream (not shown)
FusionBeauty | LipFusion Balm
Ojon | damage reverse Restorative Conditioner
Birchbox | notecards

Thoughts this month:
- Where are my Lauduree macarons? Blair's favorite Chanel gloss? Serena's self tanner? Yeah, that's what I expect in my GG box...
- Another friggin' hand cream. Enough said. Not even shown...that sucker went straight to my momma.
- While the XOXO card is adorable (love the quatrefoil!), I plan on sprucing it up with a little glitter. Would I spend $10 on 12 of these? Nah.
- The lip balm was nice and had a good timing considering I have only a nub left of my Blistex tube.
- I love the Ojon brand but considering I use so many other products to help protect my hair, I really couldn't tell a difference.

What did y'all think of your GG box?
Get anything different? Let me know!

crafty kraft paper

There is just something I love about wrapping with kraft paper.
I think it stems from the simplicity of the paper.
It allows you to add any embellishment that you want.

Lately I've been wrapping it with neon flagger tape, and Japanese washi tape.

The best part of flagger tape is that is not actually "tape" and more like a strip of plastic I can tie for bows.
Japanese washi tape is a decorative masking tape that's easily removable.

These two are my current favorite layering duo. :)

Here's a few more kraft paper ideas I love:

This Weekend

My two nieces, Ava G. and Autumn Marie, came into town.
I love hanging out with these goofy girls.

On Saturday, we romped around the zoo,
and thankfully, they have tons of water fountains to play in since the temps here are in the 90's.

My best friend, Jenna, got her Masters Degree from the University of Memphis.

I congratulated her by gifting the first Hunger Games book...now that she has her life back. :)

And Sunday, Cory and I went to the last day of Beale Street Music Fest.

Usually I call this time of year Memphis in Mud (instead of Memphis in May) due to all the rain.
Surprisingly this weekend it did not rain a drop...but we were sweaty messes instead.

Wednesday's Weekday Happies

Love this quote. Crazy how things like that turn out!

These are my new go to snack. I cannot get enough of these salt and pepper pistachios.

I'm keeping up with my pastel nails kick this week with A Crewed Interest.

Plus, this ombre mani from The Beauty Department has me in awe at how clever it is.

I just may have to pull the trigger on this adorable Cerise Stamped Dress by Anthropologie.
I'm slowly adding more and more polka dots to my wardrobe.

And this book is right up my alley.
