What Whit Recommends You NOT to Read

I normally do not write hater posts about anything (actually I don't think I've ever written one), but I do always love hearing people's commentary on things, such as books, that I wouldn't want to waste my time or money on.
Case in point:

I've been eyeballing this baby for months at Target, because I love a good historical fiction and every time I read the back, it made me want to buy it. The only problem is as fast as I read, I couldn't justify the price. Only when I got the Nook Color at Christmas (and I've found the books they off on the Nook are significantly cheaper...well, they better be cheaper if you are going to spend $200 on a device, but whatever) then did I decide to pull the trigger.

First off, this book left me wanting more. What I thought would be an intense retelling of the tragedies of the Salem witch trials whose author was actually a descendant of a woman who was actually put through a trail herself, was in reality a slow, meatless book of cliffhangers. The author put me in a trance of wanting to know a secret of this mysterious book the mother owns throughout the whole novel yet she wastes no more than a page and a half explaining what was in it. The middle consisted of small stories seen through the daughter's eyes that just left me with a feeling that I had been fed an appetizer and was still waiting for the full course.

And of course, you could have read this book and have totally disagreed with me with everything I just said. And that's fine. But if you want a good juicy page turner, for me, this is not it. And I would hate to see someone else spend money on a bunch of fluff and ending up with a face like the girl on the cover...like I did.

Vlogging

Oh geez, it's my first vlog.
Please excuse the blinding white skin. I wanted the lighting to be natural, but sitting next to the open windows ended up doing a thing on its own. I hope you enjoy!

Items mentioned in the Vlog:
Urban Decay Naked Palette
Moroccan Oil
Moroccan Oil Hydrating Styling Cream
MAC Cleansing Oil
MAC Fix +

I'm hoping to do a makeup tutorial vlog, and this was my first dry run to see how it would turn out. What did y'all think?

Going to the Chapel (Sing It With Me!) To Be in My Friend's Wedding

My sorority little sister has asked me to be in her wedding, and I am absolutely ecstatic. What's even better is that this chick is so chill that she straight up told me that her colors will be green and lavender, and wants all four of her bridesmaids to pick out her own dress to wear in the wedding.
 Old picture...very old picture.

She only had three rules: 1. it's flattering for your body type, 2. it's wedding appropriate, and 3. it's green.

So lovely readers, I need your help (um, again?)! You would think since I love dresses and my favorite color is green, this would be a cakewalk. Wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong.

I have three months to find this dress, and all I have been able to find is this lone one by Jessica Simpson.

Of course, just imagine it in this color.
What do y'all think? Any other suggestions??? Any other beautiful dresses that I'm just being blind to?

Vloggers, I Need Help!

So as promised, I actually made a vlog. I used my Dell computer to make it using my video camera, and it will not upload to YouTube. At. All.
It's becoming really infuriating to figure this one out especially when I actually had something to post.
So in the meantime, while I'm experiencing technical difficulties, I would appreciate any advice if any of you have had this problem before. :)

Monday Inspiration

Hello world,

Hope you are having a great day and your week (whether you are starting spring break, finishing spring break, or wondering what the heck is a spring break) is beginning on the right side of the bed. Speaking of which, my normal Sunday funday didn't start off so great with losing an hour. And Memphis needs to decide on whether or not it is going to be spring. Dresses one day, boots the next...enough is enough, people!

But I digress, I love this quote from James 1:25, and this is what I will be meditating for the day:

"But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it - not forgetting what they heard, but doing it - they will be blessed in what they do."

New Obsession: Pure Barre

Recently I participated in the greatness that is Pure Barre. I first heard about it through Twitter, and it intrigued me to hear women using techniques from ballet, Pilates and weigh lifting to get these amazing results. They also have a blog, which also had me wanting more.

When I walked in for my first session, I was greeted by an amazingly sweet, VERY TONED  woman who showed me the ropes. I took my shoes off at the door; socks would be worn from then on out. I was given a medicine ball, a stretch tube, and a set of weights. For 55 minutes, I stretched, pulled, lifted, and burned every muscle in my body. And for a pleasant surprise, the time flew by. Now since I'm not a professional, I can't exactly explain what I actually did for the exercises, but I can say many moves were reminiscent of my days on the ballet bar.

Long story short, I will be coming back.

Now for the reason I wrote this whole post -- first timer tips and tricks!
1. Buy the Pure Barre socks. I wish I did the first 30 seconds of the workout. Unfortunately at first the $12 price tag kept me away, but I soon realized why all 25 women in my class wore them; they have little grippers on the bottoms to keep you from sliding all over the place. Which I started doing once we began...
2. Wear the proper attire. Your legs have to be covered and you can't come in wearing just a sports bra. No shoes, just socks. That part I don't mind. I didn't want to see everyone's rock hard abs anyways.
3. You don't have to be a work out guru to do this. But it is hard. If you think you are going to come in and do a couple of squats in front of the mirrors and stretch your legs, you are wrong. When I got tired, I took a small millisecond break, and my teacher was ok with that.
4. Be on time. Anyone who follows me on twitter knows I was 5 minutes late to my first class because of traffic, and I was prompted to reschedule. Once the doors are closed, they are closed until the next class.
5. Be aware of the prices. Lord knows I would find an exercise regimine that I actually like, and it would be expensive. Mine charges $20 single classes and $179/month for a year membership (with of course other different packages in between).

Have any of y'all done Pure Barre? What do you think?

Bible Verse, Day Two - Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."

Victory Is MINE

Thanks to my lovely friend, Lori, I now have this baby.
I know most of y'all are probably sick of hearing about this makeup palette, but trust me, it was worth the hype and definitely worth the wait. And the timing couldn't have come better since I hit the pan on several of my MAC neutral shades.
And with my purchase came some freebies. Who doesn't love free stuff!? Now I can add Urban Decay's Lip Junkie lip gloss in Wallflower and Midnight Cowboy and their Stardust shadow in Retrograde to my tester pile.

Creepy eye shot but I wanted to see how I'm wearing it.
With the 12 shades the possibilities are endless. Speaking of which, Mindy, another friend told me I should do a vlog on my makeup. I'm def up for one, but I need to figure out how to do one on my janky computer first.

Rando Thoughts for Lent

Print by dazeychic

Do you ever have one of those days where you just sit and think what's going to happen with the rest of your life? If you are on the right path, if the things that are getting under your skin going to take a turn for the better or worse, or do you ever ponder if you waited too late to seize opportunities?

Yep, I've been having one of those days. And ironically it began during Lent.

And while I haven't been all "oh whoa is me" to anyone, or finding ways to bring up my thoughts with every day conversations, I have been laying my heavy load on a person I know who is ultimately there for me and only wishes the best in my future.

The big man upstairs knows me best. I mean, He did create each and every one of us to fulfill what he ultimately knows what we will succeed in. Right now, it's just taking longer for Him to let me know his plan for me.

That's why I am thankful for prayer. Prayer is like venting to your best friend, without the feeling of gossiping. Prayer is saying what's on your mind at that very moment. Prayer is good, and I do it a lot for various different things.

And since I'm not exactly giving up anything for Lent, I thought I would instead enrich my soul with reading a Bible verse every day and really using the words to grow closer to God. (By the way, thank you Love, Belle for putting the idea on twitter! :)

To start things off, here is a verse from Jeremiah 29:11.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

"I know my calculus. You + Me = Us"

You know on Monday's I need some 90's throw back time, people. Ok, maybe it was in 2000, but that's besides the point.
Do you remember that fake boy band movie on MTV called 2ge+her?
I honestly couldn't say I thought about them until Mindy and I were talking the other night at dinner, and I admitted her blog title reminded me of their song.
Then I googled this...

Please tell me that I 'm not the only one who jammed out to this?

March Birthdays

I always thought God had a wicked sense of humor. I mean, give me a wonderful boyfriend who is born on March 5, then give me and my baby obsessed self her first niece on March 7. You can already visualize the tangled web of birthdays I am about to present to you ever year. :)

Friday night Cory and I (with about a dozen other friends) went and lounged (literally!) at Blue Fin on those fabulous blue couches in the back to celebrate his quarter century mark.
 The birthday boy and me
Cory wanted a picture of his birthday man meal.
Although I hated at first being in such a low key setting, because it was difficult to reach the tables and I felt as though everyone was spread out, Cory seemed to find it perfect toward the end of the night.
Bright and early on Saturday, I headed down to Jackson, MS to go see Ava Grace for her fourth Tinkerbell themed birthday party. Lets just say I walked into a room fulled of 3 dozen children dressed as pixies and pirates. Even my sister and brother-in-law took part in the festivities. Every year my sis does it big for Ava, but more importantly, she does it homemade!

My sis made everything on this cake using frosting and various candies
for the exception of the Tinkerbell figurines she found at Target.
The Fairy Family. Ava's little sister, Autumn, is always ready for a picture.
Ava on the other hand rather be playing with her guests...
I swear, she doesn't see a camera she doesn't like...
currently she is saying "CHEEEE!" whenever someone pulls one out.

No, this isn't my baby. But people sure do think is she.

I actually got a shot of the birthday girl in action.
Trust me, when she was running around she was happy,
when I was trying to take photos of her she was not. haha

"We Met On the Internet"

Last night I did it again. I had another blogger meet up, and yet again, I walked away getting to know to some pretty fabulous gals.

Thank goodness our ringleader, Chistin, rallied us all together because as you can imagine, ten chatty sisters at a table can get a little crazy at times!

So, dear readers, if you are looking for a great blog (or several!) to read, I would definately check these girls out:
Christin at A Classy, Southern Wife
Lauren at Not Your Average Southern Belle
Alicia at The Diary of a Crazy Southern Wife
Andrea at A Southern Kind of Love
Katie at Smooches and Luvs
Kristen at Diary of KFun

And of course, I can't forget my two other buddies Mindy and Jen Marie!

Hey girls, next time someone bring a camera :)

What's Up Y'all

How's your week been going?
Mine has been slightly, if not completely, insane.
But fortunately, I have the whole weekend to look forward to.

Thursday I'm getting to have dinner with some lovely blog buddies of mine. Two of whom I've already met on the interwebs, but several others that I have not. I love having blog meetings or tweet ups as some may call it. The first time I ever went to a tweet up, I was nervous and thinking "what are these girls going to be like?" "Will they like me?" and rest assured, I now have several amazing friendships with these women.

Friday is Cory's pre birthday dinner we will be having with some friends. I'm taking him to one of his favorite restaurants, Bhan Thai, in Memphis. Cory, who is my fitness guru, has now taken up mountain biking so for his quarter century mark his mom and I pitched in and bought him one. After hearing him talking about it so much, I think I might just have to get one myself!

Saturday I'm heading down to Jackson to celebrate my niece's, Ava Grace, fourth birthday! And as a side note, yes my niece's birthday party is on my boyfriend's actual birthday and he doesn't mind in the slightest. This is why I love this man.

What are y'alls plans for the rest of the week?

xoxo,
