Boho Jewels

I'm currently loving the boho look. 
Loose wavy hair, flowy tops. Anything Ikat. I'm all about that.
I picked up these pieces of jewelry lately and I've received numerous compliments.

The Sky Drop earrings are from Anthropologie. If I could change just one thing, it would be to make them BIGGER!

Now my coworkers have me hooked to these charm bracelets from Alex and Ani. I currently have three, one with the charms of an owl and I've added my fluer de lis to the other. Now I want this one, this one, and don't forget this one.

What Whit's Reading

Do you ever read a book so good that in the middle of reading it you want to slow down, savor each page, because the closer you get to finish it, the closer you feel like you are losing a friend?

Ok, maybe a little overly dramatic, but I swear when I describe this book to my friends, this is the analogy that I use. 

From the first page I knew I was hooked to this quirky, eclectic, nine year old narrator.

"What about a little microphone? What if everyone swallowed them, and they played the sounds of our hearts through little speakers, which could be in the pouches of our overalls? When you skateboarded down the street at night you could hear everyone's heartbeat, and they could hear yours, sort of like a sonar. One weird thing is, I wonder if everyone's hearts would start to beat at the same time, like how women who live together have their menstrual periods at the same time, which I know about, but I really don't want to know about. That would be so weird, except at the place in the hospital where babies were born would sound like a crystal chandelier in a houseboat, because the babies wouldn't have had time to match up their heartbeats yet. And at the finish line at the end of the New York City Marathon it would sound like war."


Now as a warning, this book is not a fun, light read by any means, but it is a great book that will make you think.

Regardless of who you are spending this holiday with (in the past I've spent this day with significant others, best friends, even just myself!), I hope you are having a great one. Right now, I'm about to head to a low key dinner with Cory. That awesome man thought he was going to work today so he surprised me at my job with flowers. So not only do I get a lovely flower arrangement, I get to see him as well!

Mirror Motivation

I'm sure everyone here has had some form of what I coined as "mirror motivation" in your lifetime. Living in the sorority house for two years, I had a whole whopping house full of it.
What is mirror motivation you ask? It's simply taking a dry erase marker and writing a quick note to your roommate, leaving your favorite quote to support a friend, or having a countdown to something exciting coming up, etc.
My roommate and bff, Jenna, would love leaving me mirror motivation. Actually she was the first person I ever received it from. And she chose to put it in one of my favorite morning spots in college...my desk makeup mirror.

I used this mirror every day while getting ready for school. If I ever had a bad morning or wasn't feeling good, her simple two word message always made me smile. Granted she didn't use a dry erase marker; I think it was one of those pens people use to write on cars. So I still have it stuck on my makeup mirror, almost three years later. 

After that our bathroom mirror would have a quote probably once a week with great sayings and positive outlooks. Geez, to be a college student again. Le sigh.
With that being said, I was cleaning yesterday when I found a lonely dry erase marker and all these little memories, special only to me and a select few, came creeping back. 
And I wrote this on my mirror.

It will be another 77 days until my next vacation to the beach. And no, I'm not sending this message to myself as a way of working out every deadgum day to make it to my beach body. It's rather a small message that I have 77 days to smile, to work hard, to do what needs to be done before my next break to relax, and to make each day I'm here doing ordinary stuff the best it can be.

Where Did You Get That App?

I think our phones say a lot about us as individuals. I could probably take your phone, look at your apps (and where you place those apps) and music, and could probably tell you your future. Just kidding. I'm not that good.
Like for example, myself: I'm addicted to my Echophone, Facebook and photo apps. LOVE.
But, anyways, thanks to my friend, Lindsay, and her blog over at Color Me Southern for the inspiration, I figured I would give you a list of some photo apps I have on my phone (other than the given Echophone and Facebook), and in turn, learn about some really cool apps from you. 

Hipstamatic - $1.99
This was the first photo app I ever purchased, and I love it. It lets you choose what camera you want to use, what film you want to use, and even selected edging. The combos can be endless.

IncrediBooth - 0.99 cents
I used to be obsessed with taking photostrips in the movie theaters. Well, I still do. This is just a tad bit cheaper.

ClassicINSTA - $1.99 (also comes in a free version)
This is similar to the Histamatic, but it only allows you to change the film cartridge. You can add many different hues to the photo, and also allows you to add any of these changes to photos already on your phone. It also puts a nice, clean border around the photo.

Cross Process - 0.99 cents

This came as a suggestion from my dear friend, Molly, who is a photographer, and this is quite possibly my favorite photo app I own. If you can only download one, download this one! For those who do not know, Cross Processing creates unique colors and contrast to your photos unlike regular film. Some of the photos you will take with this will look funny, but the majority will look gorgeous.

Happy Birthday!

My blog has hit it's terrible twos! I never in my life thought that this blog would take off the way it did for me. If you want to read how my blog came about, you can read about it here. For me it's more than how many page views I have, or how many people comment on my posts. It's been an amazing journey, and because of this blog, I have been able to meet some incredible women that I now call my friends. That's how I measure the success of my blog, and I want to thank each one of my reader's for the wonderful ride so far. :)

Baby Got a New Set of Wheels

I made my first big girl purchase yesterday. I got a new car!
Y'all who read my previous post already know that my ole Silver Bullet bit the dust last week...in the middle of one of Memphis' busiest roads none the less. But thankfully I went and found an awesome car and now I'm back in business.

New Nissan Altima! Now what should I name this one?

Also, Cory and I finally got around to going out and celebrating our five year anniversary. Friday night he took me downtown to a three course meal at Flight, and it was delicious! This was my first time at Flight, and the food was amazing, and we will definitely be back. 

 Hello red eyes.

Yesterday Cory and I spent the evening with some of our married friends who just gave birth to a sweet little boy named Nolen. Of course, I adored their little three month old chunk. Before I left, I thought I would do my first ever OOTN. 

Please excused my stupid expression. It is my first time doing OOTNs and I had no idea what I was doing! I wore an Anthropologie tunic (that was actually sold as a swimsuit coverup), and my Jasper and Jeera beaded belt that I wear with literally everything.

Spring Wish List

Since Memphis just received two more inches of snow tonight, I thought what better way to get me in a better mood than making a spring wish list. I'm sure I'm with the majority saying that I am O.V.E.R. this weather...bring out the sunshine and warmth, people!

I tried on these shorts the other day, and I love everything about them. Being 5'9, they are a great length for my height, and are actually a little bit darker than this picture implies. Also, they are corduroy. So soft!

 LuLu's Strawberry Mochi Maxi Dress by Collective Concepts

My favorite to wear in the spring is dresses. But for some reason I'm always hesitant to purchase dresses from LuLu's, because on the site they look so short on the models. But this maxi dress fits the bill for both beautiful print AND length. Win. Win.

Updates

How's is hanging, blog buddies?! It's not like I've necessarily been away from my blog, but lately the box where I type my thoughts has only held a blinking cursor in it for days. Here's some updates!


1. Cory and I had our FIVE year (no, not wedding) anniversary this past Saturday. I wish I could have made another gratuitous post about how wonderful our night was, what we did, and what I was wearing but...things don't always go as planned. Cory was called into work late that afternoon and conveniently got off right as I was going into work the next day. But in all honesty, we didn't freak out. Yes, it's five years, but in the grand scheme of things, I'll be spending much more anniversaries with him in the future.


2. My dear ole car has bit the dust, and I've spent the last few days bumming rides like a high schooler without a driver's license. I've been saving money to buy a new car (thank God I had a brain in preparation for that!), and now I get to stress myself out over what I will choose, afford, and will pay for for the next four years. Yay.


3. I've been glued to YouTube recently, and I've been thinking about making my first VLOG. Wish me luck!
